SB9 The California HOME Act

SB9 The California HOME Act Summary

SB9 The California HOME Act

Over the decades California has seen a historical shortage of middle-income/small multi-family housing developments near jobs and transportation which has led to higher rent and displacement of families farther from workplaces.  Senate Bill 9, AKA The California HOME Act was created and designed to combat this issue and help Californians all over the state live more comfortably and affordably by allowing lot spits on parcels zoned for single family home and two-family use. By increasing housing density (allowing residential lots to be subdivided into up to 4 total parcels) this bill seeks to improve housing affordability and promote sustainable growth throughout the state. Due to this bill’s encouragement of increasing housing density and providing more affordable housing, such as ADU’s and Manufactured Homes, leaves us in an exciting landscape of creative housing opportunities.
